General Info

The QueerFilmFest Rostock creates a shared space for the lovers of queer films and adds to Rostock’s cultural diversity. It also draws attention to the fact that people are still discriminated against because of their gender identity, sexual orientation or relationship choices.

The QueerFilmFest Rostock is non-commercial and independent. There are no set ticket prices, we only ask for a donation at the entrance. The festival is financed through these donations and grants from various organizations.

The festival is organized by volunteers and takes place at the M.A.U. Club in Rostock.

The festival takes place every year in October on one weekend from Friday through to Sunday. We screen feature films, shorts, documentaries, animations and experimental films as well as music videos from all over the world.

We have an audience of about 100 – 140 people per film block.

We do Q & A sessions after the screenings with directors, actors or organizers of other festivals.

The festival does not present any awards.

You can get in touch with us through social media or email: queerfilmfest[at]gmail[dot]com.

Taking a look at the gallery will give you a feel of what our festival is like.

Information for Filmmakers

It is possible to submit films to us all year round, but the deadline for the 2024 edition of the festival is the 15th of June.

We welcome all queer films of all genres from all over the world, including music videos!

If you would like to submit a film in a language other than German, we welcome German and/or English subtitles. Please also remember an up-to-date password for protected screener links.

As mentioned above, we are a small, non-commercial film festival, we screen our films via laptop and beamer. Therefore, if your film makes it into the selection of our festival editions, we would be grateful if you could provide us with an .mp4 or .mov file for screening, as well as for external subtitles as .srt files.

Other file formats, DVDs and correct burned-in subtitles are of course also welcome! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.

If it is possible for us financially and for you in terms of time, we would also be happy if you came to Rostock and presented your film in person.
